DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN KIGALI, RWANDA:

Arrive in Kigali, Rwanda. Transfer from the airport to your hotel for a welcome drink and orientation. Dinner and overnight at your hotel, no activity on this day!

DAY 2: TRANSFER TO AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK FOR HALF GAME DRIVE AND BOAT RIDING:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We shall wake up early in the morning at 05 am heading to Akagera national park. It will take us approx. 2hrs and 30min to get to the park covering a distance of 120km from Kigali. On the way to the park we will be viewing and learning different histories of Rwanda and enjoying the view of Rwanda’s landscape. After reaching the park we may go to Akagera game lodge for Breakfast & hotel Check in. Later in morning we will do a game drive which is like opening a present since each game drive holds a full new surprise as nature reveals its treasures in form of wonders that are so scenic. The amazing wildlife includes buffalos, antelopes, the elands, topis, Maasai giraffes, monkeys, savannah birds, civets, leopards, the hyenas, as well as the serval cats. During the game drives you will be accompanied by a guide who is highly knowledgeable about the flora & fauna that can be found in the park.

After the game drive we will go for Lunch and in the evening hours we will do a boat ride on Ihema Lake. During this breathtaking expedition, you will sail along the water edge which is covered with several trees, drift past numerous giant hippos and see several crocodiles in the shallow water and others basking on the shore.

In addition, you will see a number of water birds so serious birders will be able to identify a large number of birds. The tour shall end at 06pm followed by dinner and the overnight stay at the Akagera game lodge.

DAY 3: FULL GAME DRIVE IN AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK AND TRANSFER TO KIGALI:

We shall wake up in the morning around 06am and have breakfast in Akagera Game lodge and on this day, we will do a full game drive in Akagera as we shall be driving from the south to the north of the park. Thereby we shall spend approximately 5-7 hours in the park and return back to Kigali in the evening around 06pm for check in, dinner and overnight stay there.

DAY 4: KIGALI CITY TOUR: 

After breakfast, we will depart from your hotel around 08am for a sightseeing city tour of Kigali, one of the cleanest cities in east-central Africa. You will drive through the administrative, museum and economic districts of Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. The tour will start with visiting the Kandt house museum to discover much about Dr Richard Kandt who was seeking the source of River Nile. There we shall also learn more about the origin and development of Kigali city. Afterwards we will proceed to the Belgian memorial which is dedicated to Belgian soldiers who have been perished during early 1994 Tutsi genocide. Next, we continue to the Campaign against Genocide museum twhich detailly shows how the Campaign Against Genocide Plan was executed by RPF/A following the withdrawal of UN troops leaving the targeted Tutsi under the mercy of the Genocidaires and how only the RPF/A forces who were in the war of liberation took the unilateral decision to not only stop Genocide and rescue victims of Genocide but also defeated the Genocidal forces. After Lunch we will close our day’s tour on Gisozi genocide memorial which is the final resting place for more than 250,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. It honors the memory of more than one million Rwandans perished in 1994 Tutsi genocide. Our tour will end at around 05pm.

DAY 5: VISIT ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM, KING’S PALACE MUSEUM AND TRANSFER TO NYAMASHEKE DISTRICT:

We will wake up early in the morning at around 06am for breakfast and checkout as we will start our trip by visiting the Ethnographic museum which was built in 1987 and now houses one of Africa’s finest ethnographic collections. Its seven galleries display historical, ethnographic, artistic and archaeological artifacts accompanied by visual aids, giving visitors a rich insight into the culture of Rwandans. It is located in Huye, 132 km South of Kigali-Rwanda’s Capital. The Ethnographic Museum is one of the eight museums that make up the Institute of National Museums of Rwanda. After this tour we will proceed our journey to the Nyanza district for lunch, after lunch we will visit the King’s palace museum which is residence of King Mutara III Rudahigwa and the Royal Palace that was traditionally built. This Palace offers a detailed look into Rwandan traditional seat of their monarchy, it is an impressive museum, restored to its 19th century state and made entirely with traditional materials. Recently the Long-horned Traditional cows, known in Kinyarwanda as “Inyambo” were also introduced because of the fact that cows form an integral part of Rwandan Culture. On the neighboring hill of Mwima, one can also visit the burial grounds of King Mutara III and his wife Queen Rosalie Gicanda. As we close our trip on this day we will continue and reach Nyamasheke at around 07pm for check in, dinner and overnight stay

DAY 6: VISIT NYUNGWE NATIONAL PARK/CANOPY AND TRANSFER TO KARONGI:

We will wake up in the morning at around 08am for breakfast & check out and later visit the canopy walkway which is the bridge adjourned between huge trees where one get the feeling of fresh air while being 70m above the forest floor. Apart from the freshness in the air and the wonderful aerial view of the trees, you will also enjoy the sights of fantastic birds that fly across. The walkway was opened in 2010 and it’s the only one of its kind in east Africa and the third one on the African continent. This 90m long canopy walk way also gives a unique face to face meeting with butterflies, birds and the monkeys.

After lunch in afternoon we will move on to Karongi which is 96 km, about 1-hour 30min drive where we will check in, have dinner and relax with the local communities around Kivu lake.

DAY 7: VISIT KARONGI AND TRANSFER TO RUBAVU DISTRICT:

We shall start our trip at around 08am after breakfast and checking out. We will start with a boat trip visiting different island in Lake Kivu like Napoleon island which contains a colony of more than 5000 Fruit Bats. Other islands include King island, Queen island, Monkey island and Peace island and we even have a chance to visit the place where German soldiers left their boat during the second World War and where their factories were located. Further, we will enjoy the great view of Karongi and Rutsiro mountains. After vising all the islands we shall take a lunch and in the afternoon hours we will proceed our trip to Rubavu which will take us about 2hrs 23 min, a 111km drive. On the way to Rubavu we will enjoy the great scenery of the country of thousand hills as we will be moving through the Congo-Nile Divide Road around the lake shore. Once we reach Rubavu we will first check in and then relax by the lake before spending the night there.

DAY 8: RUBAVU CITY TOUR, HOT WATER SPRING TRIP, BOAT RIDING AND RELAXATION ON KIVU LAKE AND TRANSFER TO MUSANZE:

We shall start our trip at around 08am. After breakfast and check out we will visit Gisenyi, a town located in Rubavu district in the Western Province of Rwanda. Gisenyi Town is near Goma Town across the border in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We will have a chance to see main borders that separate Rwanda and DR. Congo. Later on we will do a boat riding trip on Kivu lake  to have a good view of the lake and the town. Eventually we will relax by the lakeside, go for a swim and simply enjoy the lake. We will end our tour around 05pm and transfer to Musanze for check in, dinner and overnight accomodation.

DAY 9: GORILLA TREKKING AND GORILLA GUARDIAN TOUR:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We wake up in the early morning at 06am. Following breakfast and check out we will drive to Kinigi for registration and taking a briefing from a park guide. At exactly 8.30 am, we shall be reaching to the park’s headquarters in Kinigi Village where you are briefed by the park guide about the rules and regulations governing Gorilla tracking. You are distributed into different groups and then sent off into the forest. The trek takes an hour to about 8 more depending on where the gorillas had been the previous day. The hike is quite strenuous but all the more rewarding once you set your eyes on the gentle mountain gorillas. They always move in a big number with the Silverback at the lead. You will watch them carrying out their day to day routine like the juveniles playing, mothers feeding their young ones and the Silverbacks taking watch. After the tour we will be back to Musanze city for dinner and overnight accomodation

DAY 10: TRANSFER FROM MUSANZE TO LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK:

We wake up in the early morning at 06am and after breakfast and check out we will drive to Lake Mburo national park. During the drive we will enjoy the view and landscape of the two countries Rwanda & Uganda. The journey is 305 km long and it will take us about 5 hrs. and 40minto complete. Following arrival we will check in and spend a night in the park.

DAY 11: FULL GAME DRIVE IN LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK: 

We wake up early at around 07am for breakfast and start our game drive in Lake Mburo national park. The lake was originally gazetted in 1933 as a controlled hunting area and upgraded to a game reserve in 1963. The Banyankole Bahima residents continued to graze their cattle in the reserve until it was upgraded to national park status in 1983.

Lake Mburo National Park is located in Kiruhura District in the Western Region of Uganda. The park is about 30 kilometers (19 mi), by road, east of Mbarara, the largest city in the sub-region. This location is approximately 240 kilometers (150 mi), by road, west of Kampala, Uganda’s capital and largest city. The park has a variety of animals such as zebras, hippopotami, impala, warthogs, elands, buffaloes, jackals, leopards, and over three hundred (300) bird species. At 260 square kilometres (100 sq. mi), the park is the smallest of Uganda’s Savannah national parks. Our tour will end at around 04pm, and we will have an overnight stay here.

DAY 12: TRANSFER FROM LAKE MBURO TO QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK AND DO A GAME DRIVE IN THE PARK:

We wake up early at around 07am for breakfast and start our drive to the Queen Elizabeth national park which is a 120 km and 2hrs. 20 min drive. After reaching the park we will do a game drive in the park that is known for spectacular wildlife including  CapebuffaloeshippopotamicrocodileselephantsleopardsCongo lions, and chimpanzees. It is in total home to 95 species of mammal and over 500 species of birds. Moreover, the park is also famous for its volcanic features, including volcanic cones and deep craters, many with crater lakes, such as the Katwe craters from which salt is extracted. Services in the park include a telecenter, the Queen’s Pavilion, park lodges, game and scenic drives, and boat launches. Overnight accomodation will be at a recommended hotel around the town of Rubirizi.

DAY 13: TRANSFER FROM QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK TO MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK:

We wake up early at around 07am for breakfast and start our drive to The Murchison falls national park that may take us around 50 min covering about 46 km through the Ugandan districts of BuliisaNwoyaKiryandongo, and Masindi. This area is about 283 kilometers, by road, north-west of Kampala. The park is the location of the Murchison Falls where the waters of the Nile flow through a narrow gorge only 7 meters wide before plunging 43 meters. It is also the location of the 600 megawatt Karuma Power Station, which will be Uganda’s largest power station. MFCA and the adjacent Bugondo Forest Reserve have 76 species of mammals as well as Uganda’s largest population of crocodiles. 450 bird species are present ranging from easy variety of water birds, including the rare shoe-billed stork, Buganda’s 59 “restricted range” species, dwarf kingfisherGoliath heronwhite-tithed hornbill and great blue turaco. In the afternoon we will go on a boat trip to the bottom of the Murchison Falls. The night will be spent at a recommended hotel around the town of Buliisa.

DAY 14: TRANSFER FROM MURCHISON FALL NATIONAL PARK TO KAMPALA:

We wake up around 07am for breakfast & check and afterwards drive from the park to Kampala which is a 370 km and about 6 hrs. 30 min long drive. After reaching Kampala we check in  hotel and sleep in Kampala.

DAY 15: KAMPALA CITY TOUR, GIFT SHOP AND DEPARTURE:

We begin the last day around 08am and spend the morning hours by sightseeing Kampala city. After Lunch we will visit gift shops and depart in the evening hours.
